"Superheroes"
"Xena, Warrior Princess" by Natasha Stott Despoja, Deputy Leader,
Australian Democrats.
(note: painting also by author of article)"Xena, television-Land's legendary heroine, is sassy, sexy and packs a mean punch. What's more, she has a female sidekick, Gabrielle, and the pair of them were able to boot Hercules off the screen without straining a muscle. I was fortuneate enough to met Xena, aka Lucy Lawless, at this year's Mardi Gras. She is as stunning in person as her screen persona and as forthright, displaying a keen interest in politics (her father was apparently involved in politics in New Zealand). Any fictional character can take on all that Mars can throw at her, but it takes a real superheroine to take on Madeline Albright over the US's stance on nuclear weapons in Pacific water. I like her politics and I like her style. Breast plates in the Senate? I'd like to see that!"
