XENA’S SIDEKICK - Renee O'Connor

Scaling Mount Kilimanjaro, sailing the Nile, swimming with dolphins. Sounds like a typical day for Xena, not sidekick Gabrielle on Xena: Warrior Princess. But Renee O’Connor, the 25-year-old who plays her is more athletic than her character.

Now on safari in Africa, she’s also into hiking, climbing and martial arts. And this year, Gabrielle is becoming more like O’Connor. "She’s more independent, more her own person," says the actress, who’s getting recognized by Xenites on the street.

"It’s nice to hear what they like, especially women. They appreciate that our characters are intellectually and physically strong - Xena more than Gabrielle, but still…"
