Xena and Gabrielle: Still an Ambiguously Gay Duo

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Now that "Xena: Warrior Princess" has filmed its last episode, do we get to know, once and for all, whether Xena and Gabrielle's relationship goes beyond saving the world together, raising a child together and occasionally kissing?

No.

"We leave it for people to make up their own minds," actress Lucy Lawless tells the "KTLA Morning News" in Los Angeles. The syndicated adventure series has been doing that for years, depicting Xena and her flaxen-haired sidekick in full homoerotic glory, but never quite making the leap to acknowledged lesbianism.

Lawless isn't about to let that ambiguity lose her any fans, though. She says she appreciates the show's lesbian following.

"The lesbian community in particular has no role models on television," Lawless says, with the possible exceptions of "Ellen" and "Cagney & Lacey."

Clips from the series finale, which airs June 18 (check local listings for times), show a scantily clad Xena and Gabrielle clinging to each other as they swing on a rope through a burning village.
