Prince(ss) of 'X-Files'

If casting is everything, just where is "The X-Files" going? It was recently announced that Cary Elwes ("The Princess Bride") will play the recurring character of FBI Assistant Director Brad Follmer, who's an ex-boyfriend of Special Agent Monica Reyes (Annabeth Gish).

Elwes is the second addition to the 2001-02 season. Lucy Lawless, the leather-skirted, sword-wielding icon "Xena," will appear in the season premiere Nov. 4. Details of her character are a mystery.

The two actors join Robert Patrick, who replaced David Duchovny last year, and Gillian Anderson, who's been with the show since its inception in 1993.

One continuing strength of "The X-Files" has been the lack of romantic entanglements from the lead characters. Then again, didn't Scully's baby have that Mulder smirk?
