The latest in our series about those game girls...
We Love Lucy
Name: Lucy Lawless
AKA: Xena Warrior Princess
Occupation: Actress
Date of Birth: 29th March, 1968
Birthplace: Auckland, New Zealand
Hair: Dark
Eyes: Scary
Attributes: Speaks German, French and Italian, and has studied opera
extensively. She also acts and sings - appearing in Grease on Broadway last
year.
Big Break: Won the Mrs New Zealand award in 1989 and broke into acting soon
afterwards.
Doing what?: Minor TV roles and a collection of films with either women or
warrior in the title - The Rainbow Warrior, Peach - Women From Down Under,
and Hercules and the Amazon Women. That's what lead to Xena Warrior
Princess as a spin-off TV show.
And is it fairly popular?: Are you kidding? Check out the Internet, there
are thousands of sites devoted to the Warrior Princess. She's a sci-fi cult
phenomenon and much-loved lesbian icon. She's huge, and not only because
she's a broad-shouldered six-footer.
Forgive me for asking, but what the hell has she got to do with the
PlayStation?: Oh, sorry, didn't we mention, there's a Xena Warrior Princess
title scheduled for release in 1999.
What sort of game will it be?: Well, it's hardly going to be a driving game
is it? Think of other possible buxom female PlayStation icons, whose job is
to explore lost worlds and do battle with creatures that time has
forgotten, dressed in skimpy costumes and laden with weapons.
Got you. When's the Warrior Princess set to appear on PlayStation?: Should
be out at the end of the year. Expect it to be number one in the New
Zealand PlayStation charts this coming Christmas.
