Con 07 Chicago: Renee at the con Con 07 Chicago. Joe, Then Lucy and Joe, then Lucy and Joe and Renee, then Lucy, then Lucy and Renee, then Renee.
I was reading part 8 over this morning and suddenly remembered Renee's defense of her public underwear expedition. After Lucy told us that Renee had walked down the hallway in her undies and bra to get to Lucy's room to work on their hair together, Renee turned to us and said that of COURSE you don't wear a shirt when doing your hair-you always do your hair in your underwear. (Oddly enough, many of us had no idea that this was so-it was news to us.) However, I think wearing only your underwear to go over to your girlfriend's to do your hair is a special Reneellian twist. I'm thinking she may have said she'd brought a T-shirt along for the return journey. She's lucky that Lucy didn't look out the peephole and see her-she would probably have left her stuck standing out in the hall in her underwear while yelling things through the door to attract attention. Renee at the Con Part 9 First thing I have is, "R – barking and pounding her feet." Now was Renee doing this or did she say someone else was doing this? Yet another scribblingplague notebook mystery. Renee said, "I want to see Lucy later after those brownies." She said that Lucy and Ted were great actors. She added, "Ted is so under-rated." Then she said, "I love Lucy. I just love her. And it’s such a fortunate thing (the con). It keeps her in my life." She answered a question with, "They gave me a Shetland pony. We were supposed to be differentiated. Plus, I can’t ride a horse." I think someone must have asked about Iris. Renee said, "I came and didn’t bring any of my children." A pause. Then, "The house is closed up and she’s got a little bit of food I left out." In reply to another question she declared, "I injured the most stunt men." Then she stepped down from the stage and began to walk down the middle aisle towards the back of the hall. The audience was thrilled with this. There was a surprised and happily excited buzz of talk and a lot of shuffling and adjusting sounds as people turned in their seats to track her as she walked. Now as I said earlier, the chairs were VERY close together in this hall. So when one person turned, pretty much the whole row had to turn or at least shift some also. We should have broken out into singing, "And the little one said, ‘Roll over’. And they all rolled over and one fell out’". But we didn’t. Renee said, "I was really looking forward to leaning back and watching the show with you guys. Lucy is so brave and I support her." Then Renee told us that she had to leave and wouldn’t be at Lucy’s show that night. You could hear a swell of disappointment ripple through the crowd. Renee explained, "I left a baby at home". I believe she said that she hadn’t left Iris alone before and she was missing her and needed to be back with her. And/or maybe she said that Iris might be missing her. She was asked about work. She said, "I’m looking for roles where I can express my sexuality." A kind of somewhat stunned and hanging on the next words out of Renee’s mouth ambiance struck some of the crowd as we all absorbed the possible implications of her using the word "sexuality". I think it’s possible Renee doesn’t truly understand the various interpretations that word can refer to. She said something about her being perceived as wholesome and prim. And then she mentioned her whip. (Now let’s see-she whipped people at the bard con, she whipped people at her photo op in New Jersey and she whipped Lucy at the Buddy Guy concert. But in a wholesome and prim way, I’m sure. Grin.) She talked about how she works on getting to, "It’s okay to feel sexy and to be able to do all these things." She added that she has to get past feeling that "It’s not safe to look sexy. That’s not my background." She talked about portrayals of women who are sex crazed. And mentioned "Nip and Tuck." Then she added, "I’m sorry to be saying this in front of our children here today." (I thought her choice of words was sweet-"our" children. Nice.) She was asked about work she might be considering. "Are these lesbian choices?" Renee answered, "You know what (pause). . . I know some of you guys would really like to see that. I want to keep you guys coming. I’m not afraid to do anything." There was a little wave of amusement when she said this. I believe she repeated something about keeping us coming and more people laughed and then she realized what she had said and she laughed at herself also. (Note: I couldn’t see her at all because she was so far back in the hall (and she’s LITTLE, ya know?) so I THINK this is what was going on, but I only had sound clues.) She finished with she’d do "anything that’s just really good work." She was asked about working with Katherine Fugate. "I don’t know. One day I’m sure I’ll play something. I promise you, I’ll do something different." Someone asked, "Have you been approached by the L Word?" Renee immediately answered, "But they have a lot of nudity, don’t they? I don’t watch it. I’m not doing nudity just for the sake of nudity." Then she laughed at herself, for just having told us about having to work on getting past feeling it’s not safe to look sexy and then immediately leaping to say she didn’t want to be on a show because it has a lot of nudity on it. "Never use the word never" she declared. "I’m trying to step up the game without showing gratuitous sex. That’s pointless." I believe she was asked again about how she keeps in shape. She told us she’s not working out. Someone mentioned "The Genesis Code" the Sci Fi channel movie Renee is working on. I think they asked if it was really true that she would be in it. The answer is yes, though I don’t have her reply written down. Then Renee talked to us, telling us, "I had a really difficult childhood. My brother, mother and I were all in abusive situations." It’s always so sad to hear Renee talk about this. And I always admire her courage in doing so. She said we should all share our stories. She began to walk back up towards the front. She stopped and talked to a woman in the audience who I think had maybe written them a letter? And she pointed her out to us and told us she had raised 15 I think foster kids. And it’s possible that then she praised all of us again and said things about what good people the XWP fans are. And that’s the end of my notes on Renee. And the close of the Joe, Lucy and Renee show at the con. KT
