Q. What are the various video formats and what software would I need to play them with?

A.

Mov (Quicktime)
Mpg (Quicktime)
Avi (Windows Media Player)
rm (Real Player)
ram (Real Player)
wmv (Windows Media Player)

Q. How big (in file size) can the files be?

A. Under 20-30 mb - any bigger and it will be to big for those on dialup and bandwidth issues as well.

Q. Why are the initials FIN placed in the description of some videos

A. The "FIN" label in the descriptions is to alert fans who do not want to view footage from the episodes "A Friend In Need Part 1" and "A Friend In Need Part 2". These episodes (and in particular A Friend In Need Part 2" contain images / footage that distressing to some fans. Xena's death and the method of Xena's death has been discussed at length in the Xenaverse with some fans vehemently opposed to the way she died (or stayed dead). The footage of Gabrielle sailing off into the sunset with Xena's ashes is also distressing for some fans. Therefore for those fans who don't want to view images at all from these episodes, the FIN label is used. Also used are: "Some FIN content" and "FIN Only"

Q. Where can I get the software?

A. Windows Media Player 9 * Quicktime * Real Player

Q. How do I view the video files?

A. You will need to save the file and play it on your computer UNLESS it's a steaming media file and then you can click on the link and wait for the connection.

Q. How do I download a video file?

A. Position the mouse cursor over the link, press down the right button of the mouse and select save target as from the menu

Q. Can I submit my work to the Music Video Section?

A. No. Like The Bard's Corner, the music video section is by invitation only.

Q. Do you mind if I link to a video from my site?

A. Yes I do - please link to the artists' page with the video listing rather than individual files

Q. I've got a link of a particular video from ausxip on my site; why can't my visitors download the video file or view any graphic images?

A. It's bandwidth stealing and that's a no-no. Ausxip is hotlink protected which means you cannot link directly to video or image files. If you would like to link to a video, please link to the artists' page where the video link is located.

If the site is a message board and the links are there for the convenience of it's members, please email me at webmaster@ausxip.com and let me know so I can allow access. Downloading from ausxip is not affected; just from other sites linking directly to the files.

Q. Why is the site hotlink protected?

A. To counter bandwidth thieves who can't be bothered and/or are lazy in giving credit or acknowledging they are linking directly to files rather than the most obvious linking method. It's been one of my major headaches in the years of running ausxip. This won't stop thieves who remove files and use them without consent on their own sites but it's a deterrant for bandwidth thieves.
