What sparked this protest:
The Way is the third episode of the trilogy of episodes dealing with Xena and Gabrielle in
India - or as it's commonly known as "the India Arc". In this episode Xena and
Gabrielle deal with figures that are in the Hindu religion - ie Hannuman, Krishna,
Indrajit and Kali. The reasons that the protestors have decided to create this problem is
because [the reasons were given by Rob Tapert in a recent letter - see below to view the
letter]
(1) It treats Lord Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, speaker of the scripture Bhagavad-gita, as fictional, and
(2) since in this episode Lord Krishna is engaged in fictional activities of helping Xena reunite with Gabrielle, who is obviously her lesbian lover, it makes it appear that Lord Krishna and the Vedic religion approve of and give blessings to homosexual relationships, which is completely false."
I am amazed at this because they openly admit that they hadn't seen the episode. How can they judge an episode when they haven't seen it? and the second point is out and out homophobia.
What is the outcome of this protest?
The outcome is that RenPics have pulled the episode from syndication thus giving the Hindu Protests group a victory (or so they think). But the Hindu groups are still not satisfied. They want a personal apology from RenPics.
