PCM interviews Sasha Alexander

ImagePCM's Allison Ebner had the opportunity to speak with Sasha Alexander, co-star of TNT's drama Rizzoli & Isles, about the upcoming season beginning June 5.

Television's smartest crime-solving duo will be back on the case this summer when TNT's Rizzoli & Isles returns for its third season. Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander star in the popular series that has averaged well over 8 million viewers through its first two seasons. This time, they're moving to a new night and time. The third season of TNT's Rizzoli & Isles is set to air Tuesdays at 9 p.m. (ET/PT) starting June 5.

Based on characters created by best-selling crime novelist Tess Gerritsen, Rizzoli & Isles stars Harmon as Jane Rizzoli, a tough-as-nails Boston police detective, and Alexander as Maura Isles, a smart, impeccably dressed medical examiner from a privileged background. Despite being complete opposites, the two women share an offbeat chemistry and strong working relationship that lets them solve complex murder mysteries in the city of Boston.

Q: There is major buzz about the return of Rizzoli & Isles, especially after the finale in which we got to see some of Maura’s emotional side, will this season delve deeper into side of your character?

"Yes, there's a lot of crying from Maura and a lot of toughness, shes gone through this metamophisis, this family stuff is bringing out a lot of emotion in her. The mystery of her biological mother and going through that journey brings a lot of tears. There's a lot of standing up for yourself and growing."

Q: After the finale there were some worries about how the dynamic of Jane and Maura's relationship would play out after the shooting, did you have any ideas as to how you thought Maura would react?

"Initially, the anger seemed really right. I wasn’t really sure though, I felt like after the anger she wanted to apologize to Jane but then there was a miscommunication between them and she became angrier. I think that anger leads into a better understanding of what happened at theshooting. Once they have that understanding they can make their way back to being friends. In the second episode they're not really talking yet, but there is that humorous tension between them where they have to work together. Overall Maura reacts the way I would expect her to."

"That's the thing I like about the writing, both characters have their own stories and neither one is right or wrong."

Q: In this year of change for Maura, how did you as an actor deal with that?

"It's great, I'm really grateful that I get to play so many colors on the show. It's fun for me because I think all of the scripts are really unpredictable and I think we see Maura go through a lot of growth. It's fun to have a character where you're peeling back the layers and finding whats underneath. The whole mystery of her family is changing her; shes discovering who she is. I'm having a really good time doing it, sometimes it's hard though; it becomes exhausting with all of the emotional changes, but it’s rewarding at the end of it all."

Q: How was it to have this new dynamic between your character and Angie’s character with this new uncomfortable tension?

"I don't think Angie or I really like fighting, it has that uncomfortable tension of fighting with a friend, so we'll do a scene and then hug it out afterwards. It's uncomfortable and unpleasant to watch theses two women who you like to see get along fighting, but that just deepens their relationship. The first episode does have some funny scenes too, and I like riding that line of humor and drama."

Q: The rift between Maura and Jane affects other characters on the show, does that play out in the season?

"Yes absolutely, Angela is very much kind of in the center of all these things with Maura and Jane. In the second episode the other characters manipulate the situation to force Maura and Jane together and become friends again."

Q: If you could give Maura a piece of advice, what would it be?

"Maybe stop reading a dictionary before you go to bed every night? I'm not sure, slow down on your vocabulary words because I'm having a hard time memorizing them."

StarryMag.com interviews Angie Harmon

ImageQ) How will the events of season two finale change the friendship this season?

A) I think, if anything, you know, we all know how it ended last season. And I think, all of us have had friends with people that we love or people that we care about. And I think that it’s a really, really great thing to watch as these two character sort of work around their difference and work around the horrible situation that has happened, and come back together. What I also love is the way that the other characters in the show recognize the love that these two girls have for each other and, you know, help in their own different ways getting them back together.

Q) Law and Order was marked as one of the great shows because of the great writing. And, the first two seasons of Rizzoli & Isles also has that kind of great writing. Do you see the show continuing, probably not as long as Law and Order, but having a long run? And is that something you would – you would see out and continue in the series?

A) I mean, obviously, as an actor, we all, you know, we all want to work and we all enjoy, you know, the projects that we set on to do. I think my strongest feeling in that – in answering that question is that, you know, and I don't mean this arrogantly, I mean this, you know, as a parent of three girls – you know, I think our show is on sort of, you know, the "right side of the line," if you will. And I feel that way because, you know, I have young girls come up and tell me how much, you know, they want to be a criminologist; they want to be a homicide detective; they want to get out there and help people and things like that. And I take that to heart. I think that’s – I think that's an accomplishment for our show. So yes, I mean, I absolutely would love that, outside of the fact that, yes, I'd be working for, you know, a long amount of time. But I think that we’d be putting something that's very positive out there. You know what I mean? For girls, it's – I just – yes, I would love that. Absolutely. But not just for the selfish reason of, you know, yes, hey, you know, we've got a great show. There's more to it than that. We have, you know, something here that is a very positive role model and something that, you know, personally, I think we need. I mean, you know, girls need that kind of – I don't know – when they did that survey and all the girls were like, you know, there were kindergarteners, and like, "I just want to be famous." But none of them said how. That, to me, is alarming. So, from young girls come out of college and high school to walk up and say the things that they say, like I just said. That means a lot to me. That means that, you know, we’re kind of – I don’t know – helping, I guess is the term I'm looking for. And that makes me feel good. Yes, of course I would love to keep doing that.

TV Guide Returning Summer Shows: Where We Left Off

ImageWhere We Left Off: The BFFs were at a crossroads after Jane shot Maura's estranged father, crime boss Paddy Doyle — breaking her promise to Maura that she wasn't going to do anything. As Paddy lay bleeding, he mumbled "Hope" to his daughter — the name of her biological mother.

What's Next: Sharon Lawrence will appear in two episodes as Hope, now a prominent doctor and an activist for women's health with secrets of her own. Paddy's fate will be revealed in the premiere, which finds Jane and Maura still at odds and will include a flashback to how they first met — when Jane was working undercover as a hooker! There'll also be plenty of old and new faces. Chazz Palmintieri returns as Jane's father, who now has a 28-year-old gal pal. Ed Begley Jr. reprises his role as M.E. Dr. Pike, and Chris Vance will be back as Jane's old flame Lt. Col. Casey Jones. Meanwhile, Maura will fall for motivational speaker Dennis Rockmond (Eddie Cibrian).

Momster's Celebrity Q&A: Angie Harmon

ImageRizzoli & Isles star Angie Harmon plays a tough-as-nailscop on her hit television show, but she relaxes the rules at home with daughters Finley, 8, Avery, 7, and Emery, 3.

Your family moved to North Carolina two years ago, but you spend six months a year shooting in Los Angeles. How does that work?
The girls come to L.A. when they're on summer break, but I'm still on my own for three months a year. It's difficult, but Jason [Sehorn, a retired NFL player] is great at playing the single dad. I Skype with the girls every night, and Jason films family events for me. Thank God for modern technology!

Working mothers tend to have guilt. What do you beat yourself up over?
How long do you have? Because I could go on and on! I feel like the worst parent in the world every time I get on a plane. Or when I miss their school awards. They get recognized for embodying positive character traits like honesty, and it means a lot to them to be celebrated.

Why did you decide to raise them in the South?
Having grown up in Texas, I was uncomfortable with how fast things were moving in L.A. My little girls were getting exposed to life too early. I want to keep them kids as long as I can.

What are Jason’s best Mr. Mom skills?
Getting the girls dressed in the morning. He coordinates their outfits better than I do—that's probably embarrassing for both of us. They come out looking ready for a photo shoot. I ask, "Did you put this together?" And they say, "Nope, Daddy did!"

Anything not quite up to your standards?
Jason, make them brush their teeth!

How does he deal with four females?
He plays golf! Seriously, I don’t think it bothers him. He's a very good dad. He wants the girls to know he's their number one fan and protector. He loves them endlessly.

As an only child, do you find it hard to relate to your daughters' sisterly dynamic?
Yes, the I'm-going-to-drive-my-sister-crazy-just-because-I-can thing is so bizarre to me. We'll be picking a movie to watch and one of them will say, "That's the one I want." And another one will be like, "No!" just to get her sister’s goat. And I'm thinking, I don’t understand you people!

Do you ever wish for a parent do-over?
All the time. Of course I snap at my kids. In the South we call it "showing your rear end." But when I tuck them in at night I say, "Sorry Mommy hissed at you—Mommy was tired."

Tell us about a recent lesson your kids taught you.
The other day Avery was trying to get her seatbelt on. She tried twice before Finley said, "I'll do it." After her two tries I turned around and said, "Here, let me do it." And then all of a sudden Jason said, "No, I'll do it!" I was just like, "Everybody stop! Avery, put your seatbelt on, baby. You can do it." She’s not going to learn anything if we're always helping her."

Are there any attributes you hope to pass down to your girls?
Strength, courage, tenacity and kindness. I also want them to recognize that no one is better than anyone else.

And which ones would you rather skip a generation?
My quick temper—it's something I work on every single day. And when I succeed by keeping it in check, I feel great.

Fast Facts

The most embarrassing song on my iPod is… "Ice Ice Baby" by Vanilla Ice. "I turn it on when I'm in a bad mood. After I listen a few times, I'm like, 'OK—life’s not so bad.'"

I never miss an episode of… Hoarders. "I watch it, then I stay up until 3 a.m. cleaning out the linen closet. I tell Jason, 'I have to get rid of this stuff—we’re hoarders!' He's like, 'You're just now realizing that?'"

Food I can’t live without: "Salt! Is that considered a food? It is to me!"

My motto: '"I know what I stand for, I know what I don't stand for, and may I have the courage to live my life accordingly.' I came up with that in my early 20s and have always stuck to it."

My favorite time of day is… Dinner. "I love cooking while the sun goes down. The dogs lay in the kitchen, Jason and I talk over a glass of wine and the girls run around like crazy people. There’s nothing better."

I'm proud my kids have… "a wicked sense of humor. You can pretty much laugh your way through anything."

My kids always bring a smile to my face when they… "say there was no thorn in their day when we play Rose & Thorn. Sometimes I know for a fact they experienced a few disappointments, so for them to reflect and decide, 'Oh, it wasn't so bad' … It's my Super Mom moment."

NY Times The Big Profile: Sasha Alexander

ImageWhile portraying Dr. Maura Isles, the more bookish, less socially adept half of the TNT crime-solving duo "Rizzoli and Isles," Sasha Alexander had a nonfelonious revelation. "One day," she says, "I was like, 'Oh, my gosh, I think I'm playing my mother.' " Which, of course, she means as the highest compliment: "She's a very attractive woman who was kind of a brainiac," Alexander says, "a C.P.A., but a very math-and-science-oriented person — in the body of a bombshell."

A look inside Rizzoli & Isles with Angie Harmon

ImageAngie Harmon, the actress who gives life to the gritty Boston homicide detective Jane Rizzoli in the TV hit drama series 'Rizzoli & Isles,' gives us the scoop in a press conference call before the highly anticipated Season 3 premieres on TNT.

In a shortage of female-led shows on television, Rizzoli & Isles is like a breath of fresh air. The show creator and Executive Producer, Janet Tamaro, was inspired by Tess Gerritsen"s series of novels, which feature two completely opposite characters: the tough Detective Jane Rizzoli and the uber-feminine, always impeccably dressed medical examiner, Dr. Maura Isles (Sasha Alexander). Jane and Maura are two strong women who are very good at what they do. They share an unconventional friendship and a solid working relationship. Despite their strength, Jane and Maura also have moments when they are vulnerable, silly, sexy, or angry.

Harmon isn't at her first role as a homicide detective. She played one in ABC's Women’s Murder Club, a show that was nominated for a People's Choice Award in the category of Best New Television Drama.
After a successful career as a runway model, she focused on studying acting and made her feature film debut in the indie Lawn Dogs, a film that screened at both Sundance and Toronto Film Festival. She marked her network television debut as Eric Roberts' co-star as a rookie member of the FBI's elite crime unit on ABC's C-16: FBI.
Rizzoli & Isles script landed on Harmon's lap just when she was considering walking away from the show business. A mother of three young girls, Harmon, who is married with former New York Giants football player Jason Sehorn, moved with her family from Los Angeles to Charlotte, NC. Yet she juggles career and family life while she works 90-hour weeks on Rizzoli & Isles set in LA.

Despite a busy schedule, Harmon took some time to answer some of the media questions before the Season 3 premiere of Rizzoli & Isles, in a TNT press conference call on May 24. She discussed the series, her perfect chemistry with Sasha Alexander, her presence on Twitter and more.
Season 2 finale ended on a cliffhanger. Jane shot Paddy Doyle, Maura's estranged father and a mobster, an act that will have a tough impact on their friendship.
Harmon said it's really great to watch these two women work around their differences and the horrible situation that's happened, and come back together in Season 3. Also, the other characters recognize the love these two characters have for each other and will help Jane and Maura in their own ways to get back together.
Another aspect of the show that was discussed was Charles Hoyt's arc and whether it was explored in the right time frame. Hoyt, fantastically played by Michael Massee, was Jane's bogeyman and her worst nightmare. Jane stabbed him to death in Episode 2.10 ("Remember Me") in an extremely dramatic and intense scene.

Rizzoli Scoop

Image

From Matt's Inside Line:

Rizzoli & Isles -

Hey, remember how Season 2 ended, with Jane shooting Maura's dad? That's gotta leave a mark – on their she-lationship, right? Things will be a little complicated when Season 3 picks up on June 5? "I would say a lot complicated!" Angie Harmon tells me with a chuckle. She then adds: "If you've ever had a fight with someone you love or care about, this is the show for you. It's very high stakes these two are fighting over." Harmon then echoes that which her leading lady Sasha Alexander shared with me, that this rift 'tween the crime-solvers won't be smoothed over overnight. "I personally like that they didn’t bring it together full-circle in one episode," Harmon says. "It takes a little bit."

Sasha Alexander examines the heart & soul of 'Rizzoli & Isles'

ImageFor the past two summers, actresses Sasha Alexander and Angie Harmon have proven that two heads are better than one in the hit drama series Rizzoli & Isles. This summer, the duo is back, both on DVD and on TNT for Season Three of Rizzoli & Isles.
With former NCIS team member Sasha Alexander playing Maura Isles, a smart, impeccably dressed medical examiner from a privileged background, and one-time Law & Order ADA Angie Harmon portraying the tough-as-nails Boston police detective Jane Rizzoli, the pair share a quirky and wonderfully watchable chemistry on Rizzoli & Isles (based on the crime novels by best-selling author Tess Gerritsen). Despite being complete opposites, the two fictional women share an unconventional friendship and a strong working relationship that lets them solve the most complex murder mysteries in the city of Boston.
"I don't know that you can compare it to another show because each show has its own individuality," explains the LA-born Alexander when asked about starring in a show with two strong female leads. "However, on our show, I think when you have two different women coming from two very different backgrounds -- but two strong women. It's fun for us because we get to explore how each one of them approaches their job and how they bring their own experiences to it. In this case, Jane and Maura don't always agree on how to go about solving something. They both are very different in their approach, and a lot of times, that can lead to you know potential conflict and obviously, then figure in a debate you know to figuring out who and what is the right way to do it. So, I just think that we have more opportunity to you know to have a bit more of that banter between each other. And given that the two women are so different, it really – there's really something to play with."

Although Sasha has appeared in a number of several highly-rated shows such as Dawson's Creek, CSI, House, M.D. and Dark Blue -- plus roles in filsuch films as Mission Impossible 3 (With Tom Cruise), Yes Man (with Jim Carrey) and Tenure (with Luke Wilson) -- as mentioned, Alexander (born Suzanna Drobnjakovic) is best known for her three seasons (2003 to 2005) as Agent Caitlin Todd on the Top Ten network hit NCIS. After her character was assassinated in the third season of NCIS, it appeared asif Sasha went into a self-imposed exile. But that simply wasn't true. Alexander guest starred on a number of prestigious television shows, did several movies and became a mother to a son and a daughter with her hubby Edoardo Ponti. And, then, the script for Rizzoli and Isles dropped in her lap and she was immediately hooked. She just had to portray the character o Maura Isles, an offbeat combination of a science nerd and elegantly chic girly girl.
"What really made me want to be on Rizzoli & Isles was reading a really good script and being compelled and attracted to the characters," recalls Alexander, the daughter--in-law of Sophia Lauren. "I really loved Maura Isles who was very fascinating to me. I was very compelled by a woman who would one choose this profession and one that was you know came – which we will learn to you know we will find out but came from a very you know highly educated wealthy background and could have chosen to do a lot of other things but has this kind of you know just this uber-feminine kind of modern woman mentality but works this job.

"There was something just intriguing about it," she continues. "And I also really loved the friendship between these two women and watching these two very different women working in this environment, on this kind of gritty male environment. That was really the thing that you know that – the reason that I wanted to be a part of it. So, I went in and met with the producer and the director, Mike Robin, who did the pilot, and read with them. Then I did a read with Angie Harmon, who was already cast. And you know from the moment we read together, it just sort of clicked."

The smash-hit police procedural series broke cable ratings during its debut run, and did even better in its second year. On the eve of the beginning of Season Three (June 5) comes the release of Rizzoli & Isles: The Complete Second Season on DVD -- featuring all 15 episodes from the series' sophomore season and several never-before-seen bonus extras. In the second season, Jane heals emotional and physical scars as old loves reappear and her mother, Angela (Lorraine Bracco), deals with divorce. Meanwhile, Jane's ex-con brother Tommy (Colin Egglesfield) has eyes for cerebral Maura, whose own family life is complicated by her adoptive mother, Constance (Jacqueline Bisset), and an elusive crime boss for a biological dad, Paddy Doyle (John Doman). Maura's complicated relationship with her biological father leads to an explosive season finale that threatens to rupture Jane and Maura's friendship -- forever.

"Season Two ends with a real cliffhanger that is resolved in Season Three," reveals Alexander, who is of Serbian/Italian descent. "I really loved doing Season Two, and I think fans will love seeing it again. Although each season stands on it's own, Season Two is a perfect introduction to Season Three. If gives you a chance to see how Maura and Jane have evolved as people and friends."

Alexander recently phoned from the set of Rizzoli & Isles to talk about Season Two, why she and Angie Harmon have such great chemistry on the show, what fans can expect from the upcoming Season Three and Sasha explains how she is able to balance a successful career with marriage and motherhood.

SASHA ALEXANDER ON RIZZOLI & ISLES...

What characteristics of Maura are closest to who you are, Sasha?
"Kindness. I think Maura's kind. I think she's generous and polite. I would definitely say those are some of my better qualities. I'm not as much of a brainiac as she is. I certainly don't have as big of a vocabulary. Those are the similar qualities, and I like the fashion."

How are you and Maura the most different?
"Well, I, Sasha, was never very good at math and science. To be honest, I really wasn't. So, it's fun to play a character that is so scientific and mathematical and whose brain functions at such a high you know at a high pace, like this. I'm – you know I think that's the biggest difference is that Maura is very linear in her thinking, very logical. I'm not quite like that. I'm much more laid back and more of a – I would say I'm not quite so type A. So that's the big difference."

The dynamics between you and Angie Harmon are absolutely phenomenal. What do you attribute that to -- personally -- as opposed to on screen?
"Personally, a sense of humor. You know, we both share a similar sense of humor. We have a lot, you know, in common in real-life in terms of our families and being mothers and all that. So I think that we bring, you know, I think that we bring those things. And having heart. Having a respectful relationship as women bring that to the screen. Wanting that to be to the screen. Wanting it to be a positive relationship between these women. I think that attributes to sort of the way we play the characters."

Craig Morgan to Guest Star on Rizzoli & Isles

ImageFirst actress Angie Harmon appeared as his love interest in Craig Morgan's video for "This Ole Boy," now Craig is going to try his hand in her world, guest-starring on her TNT series Rizzoli & Isles, CountryWeekly.com has learned exclusively. On the show, Angie plays Jane Rizzoli, a tough-as-nails Boston detective, alongside Maura Isles (Sasha Alexander), a medical examiner from a priveleged background.

Craig will play Dr. Bill Ray Higgins, a medical examiner who comes to Boston for the Bullet and Blast Injuries Symposium. While visiting, he helps Jane and Maura with a murder case.

The appearance is not Craig's first foray onto the small screen. In addition to his All Access Outdoors show, which airs on the Outdoor Channel, the former soldier portrayed himself on an episode of Lifetime's hit drama Army Wives earlier this year.

The third season of TNT's Rizzoli & Isles is set to air Tuesdays at 9 p.m. (ET/PT), beginning June 5. No air date has been set for Craig's episode.

Janet Tamaro Answers Fan Questions Season 3 - Week 10

ImageQuestion from Patricia Morton:
When will the seasons go to DVD and Netflix?

Janet's response:
Season 2 DVD will be released on May 22, 2012. Fans can pre-order now. I've seen it, and I'm biased, but I think it's pretty fun. :-)

----

Question from Danna Cravens:
In the books there are some scenes of R&I in the courtroom testifying. Any chance you take these cases off the streets for any episodes?

Janet's response:
We are dying to do a courtroom episode. It's on my list. Since real homicide detectives and medical examiners spend plenty of time in court, seems like we should see Jane and Maura there, too. It's partially an issue of sets. We don't have a courtroom set lying around. However, thanks for reminding me. I'm on it...;-)

----

Question from Laura Noel Baran:
Will Jane and Maura become good friends again especially after what happened in the season 2 finale? Will Maura forgive Jane after she shoots Maura's father?

Janet's response:
I think it'd be awfully un-fun to write if our two BFFs stayed frenemies...But I think, as in a real friendship, they'll have to work at resolving their conflict, don't you?

AfterEllen interviews Sasha Alexander on season 3 and lesbian subtext

ImageSince the first moments Sasha Alexander's Dr. Maura Isles and Angie Harmon’s Det. Jane Rizzoli stepped on screen together, the show's lesbian viewers have noticed something special. It wasn’t just the pair's striking good looks together, but their genuine chemistry and frequent closeness that made our subtext-loving hearts sing. Rizzoli & Isles has amassed a large lesbian and bisexual female fanbase through its first two seasons. Now, with the show poised to premiere its third season on TNT in three weeks, we're all anxious to see if our favorite not-gay gay cop show continues to serve up healthy helpings of LLBFF canoodling, Totally Gratuitous, Totally Gay Touching and – of course – eye sex.

Still, when last we saw these two lovely ladies of law enforcement, things were beyond tense. During a stand-off between Maura's biological father/gangster Paddy Doyle and the police, Paddy shoots FBI Agent Dean (who happens to be Jane's flower-bringing possible boyfriend) and then Jane shoots Paddy. Or, in other words, it's complicated. The cast and crew has been back filming in Los Angeles (done up to look like Boston, naturally) since March and are currently shooting the sixth episode of the 15-installment season. From the set in between takes last week, Alexander spoke with AfterEllen.com about our favorite ambiguously gayzzoli duo.

AfterEllen: Now Season 2 ended on quite an emotional cliff hanger. It's hard to forgive even a LLBFF for shooting your biological father. How different will the Jane/Maura dynamic be when the third season starts?
Sasha Alexander: Well the third season begins moments after that event. We do see their initial reaction and response to all that drama. Maura is definitely spinning from all of that. There is a lot of anger and misunderstanding between her and Jane in terms of what just happened. They pick up at a place that is very intense for both of them. Maura has her dad in hospital and her mother in hospital and is really angry at Jane.

They are just in a place of a standstill. We don't quite know how this will affect them. But then, come the second episode, something happens that brings them back together. They slowly make their way back when they start to realize what went down. Maura is coming to the realization that Paddy Doyle is not a good guy. This incident will bring them into a much deeper relationship and they do come out of it stronger.

ImageQuestion from Lulu Malouf:
Will Ms. Bissett be back as Maura's mom?

Janet's response:
Funny you should ask ... yes, I think so ...

----

Question from Frances Palugod:
How are you feeling about where Jane and Maura's relationship left off? Do you want them to make up right away, or do you feel it should be prolonged?

Janet's response:
See the answer to the question asked by our friend with the "wee" heart.

TNT and TBS Think Big for a Rolling Stone Issue

ImageThere's one thing that the publisher of Rolling Stone magazine and its advertiser partners want readers to remember about a coming special issue — that it's big, with a capital B.

The magazine, published by Wenner Media, will return to its size of 10 by 11 3/4 inches, from its current size of around 8 by 11 inches, for a special issue that ships to subscribers on May 11. Titled "The Big Issue," it will celebrate big names in pop culture and include advertising exclusively by the Turner Broadcasting networks TNT and TBS.

The rock band Metallica will grace the issue's cover, and inside readers will find a letter from the Rolling Stone publisher, Matt Mastrangelo. "It's time to set your phasers on 'massive' " Mr. Mastrangelo writes. "Blockbuster movies! Monster dance parties! Rock festivals! And, of course J.R. Ewing!"

Fourteen ads will run in the issue, promoting coming and existing TNT shows including "Franklin & Bash" and "Rizzoli & Isles," and a new version of "Dallas." There are also ads for "Conan" on TBS, and for two new series on that network, "Men at Work" and "Sullivan and Sons."

The issue is being published near the start of the annual upfront season, when networks promote their new offerings to advertisers.

Actors from some of the new series will be present at the upfronts this year, said Tricia Melton, the senior vice president for entertainment marketing at TBS, TNT and Turner Classic Movies. Ms. Melton was careful to distinguish the editorial content from the advertising in the issue.

"This is not a sponsored magazine, this is not a special advertising section," she said. "This is truly a big issue that Rolling Stone is putting forth."

The networks hope to reach the Rolling Stone reader who is considered steeped in pop culture, Ms. Melton said. "We certainly want to provide a fresh way to connect with those types of entertainment influencers," she said.

Janet Tamaro Answers Fan Questions Season 3 - Week 8

ImageQuestion from Bianca Ergan:
How much of the show is filmed on location and how much is filmed on a lot/on sets?

Janet's response:
We shoot 7.5 days. We spend about 5 to 6 days on our standing sets and up to 2 days on location. Location work is expensive, though. So it's always a challenge to get the company to a location.

----

Question from Christina DeMello:
Will Billy Burke be returning as Agent Dean this season?

Janet's response:
Why ... yes, I think he will.
