AUSXIP Charity Auction Update 18 March 2010

hey folks,

Just a few more days to go and the auction will begin (22 March) I've just finished adding all the items in both the Starship and ROC OutReach Fund sections. This year I'm doing things just a little bit differently which should make finding things so much easier!

I've created categories:

1. CD & DVD
2. Collectables
3. Apparel
4. Photos and Posters
5. Magazines & Books

Tomorrow I willl post a list of all items that will be in the auction for both charities.

If you haven't registered for the auction, may I suggest you do so if you wish to participate. Register here

You can now read the Auction FAQ on how the auction works, how to register, how to pay (when you win) for Starship and for the ROC Outreach Fund. Read Here

Enjoy!

Here's What I'm NOT Going to Auction Off In March

There are times when I receive items that I know would be mega cool to auction off at the annual auction and fans would appreciate them etc but there are times when a friend buys you something that you know won't be auctioned EVER in your lifetime. This is one of those times.

Squirrel Underpants.

No, that is not a typo. Underpants for real squirrels. Little tighty whities for the cute little buggers that I can't own in Oz. When Missy first told me she had squirrel underpants I figured they were boxer shorts with squirrels on them :) No they are not. They are the real thing...tighty whities for squirrels! LOL!

While having Renee sign stuff for the AUSXIP Auction, Missy Good slipped those in with the rest of the items. I have no clue what Renee thought about this but she must have figured it was funny because she signed them AND had Missy sign them as well (heck if she was going to sign underpants, Missy would have to as well!)

Okay someone show me ANYWHERE on this planet where there exists another pair of squirrel underpants signed by Missy and Renee? You would be hard pressed to find a pair.

And here is the proof. These are not going to be auctioned off...EVER.

You just have to laugh...who in their right minds buys underpants for squirrels (other than Missy who thought I would like them.) Who in their right mind actually manufactures these! Is there a market? Ah who cares, it's funny!

Somerset Craft Club Helps Keep Chickens Warm...

ImageWhile most chickens are kept warm by a covering of snug feathers, battery hens often end up bald due to the cramped conditions they are kept in.

But members of a craft club in Somerset have been keeping featherless rescue hens warm during the freezing weather by knitting woolly jumpers for them.

Hundreds of pullovers have been made by the club in Taunton, Somerset, after members took pity on the bald hens that have been rescued from battery farms.

Ella's Cuddle Corner - Starship News

Image "Ella would be so proud."

Jane Thompson stood in the atrium of Starship children’s hospital at the opening of Ella’s Cuddle Corner on Wednesday and spoke about her beautiful little girl who had loved animals.

In 2003, five-year-old Ella Mackie died of an inoperable brain tumour.

"The prognosis was days, weeks or months," Mrs Thompson says.

Knowing they only had a short time left with Ella, her family did all they could for her.

"Anything she asked for, we gave her." That included bringing Kevin into Starship. Kevin was the family’s much-loved cat.

They managed to smuggle him in, and Ella’s health temporarily improved.

"It meant a lot to her, although she was very sick. It made her feel a lot better," Mrs Thompson says.

Ella died on February 26, 2003, and seven years later her legacy lives on in Ella’s Cuddle Corner.

Mrs Thompson has been working towards this since Ella died.

Now in the atrium there is an area where Starship’s long-term and critically ill patients can spend time with their pets.

Winton children honour their saviour

Image Holocaust survivors and their families have celebrated the heroic actions of the man to whom they owe their lives – and those of their children and grandchildren.

The families of five Jewish children, including three rescued from Czechoslovakia at the outbreak of World War II – before they could be taken to concentration camps – paid tribute last night to Sir Nicholas Winton.

He was a Briton who arranged for the rescue of 669 children to a new life in Britain in 1939, mostly by train.

Eighty-six-year-old Eva Hayman, now in Auckland, was taken to England as a 15-year-old, after Czechoslovakia was invaded.

She was accompanied by her 11-year-old sister, and said the journey was particularly harrowing.
