The Warrior Profile on Lucy Lawless Backstage Magazine 17-23 Feb 2011

ImageBackstage Magazine has a profile of Lucy called "The Warrior"

"Xena" star Lucy Lawless steps back into the sandals for Spartacus.

Lucy Lawless doesn't mind being typecast. The actor, who became a household name thanks to the 1995-2001 TV series "Xena: Warrior Princess" and who can currently be seen on Starz's "Spartacus: Gods of the Arena," admits that playing Xena may have pigeonholed her into repeatedly being cast as the warrior in period pieces. But, the New Zealand-born Lawless notes, "What am I going to complain about? How many actresses work as much as me?"

Lucy Lawless Interview Lesbian News Vol 28, Number 6 January 2003

ImageLesbian News Vol 28, Number 6 January 2003

Lucy Lawless - In an exclusive interview the actress talks about life after Xena, love, and her lesbian fans

For six long years, lesbians around the nation looked to any clue that theirs was a lesbian relationship. They teased us when they gazed lovingly, even longingly into each other's eyes. They teased us even they gently and tenderly embraced. They teased us when they talked so devotedly about each other. When we thought we could finally prove that, yes, they are lesbians, we ran to the Internet to pore over the latest evidence with similarly devoted fans....

Double Dare: Becoming a Stuntwoman in a Man’s World

Image

The Genderacrossborders.com blog has a pretty interesting review of Double Dare - the documentary about Zoe Bell and Jeannie Epper (the stunt double for Linda Carter in Wonder Woman). The picture Kyle used is of Zoe being set on fire during the filming of the Xena series finale "A Friend in Need Part 2".

In part it reads:

First off, the players: Zoe Bell gets her first mainstream introduction here as the camera follows her from her first part doubling for Xena: Warrior Princess, all the way to her winning role of Uma Thurman’s double in Kill Bill (she was also the one who did that insanely dangerous “Ship’s Mast” sequence in Death Proof).

The documentary immediately begins by showing the first major way women are treated differently than men when it comes to stuntwork. As Lucy Lawless puts it, “The first rule of women in film is that they have to look good… apparently.” Due to the fact that Wonder Woman and Xena are made to wear tight and very revealing outfits, there is often no way to add padding or any kind of safety gear. More often than not, the stuntwoman just work without the protection. Men on the other hand, are able to wear as much padding as they want (they can wear baggy pants, shirts etc). Epper recalls just being thankful that they let her wear flat boots in the second season of Wonder Woman.

Katee "Starbuck" Sackhoff a Xena Fan!

Battlestar's Sackhoff graces Armageddon
ERICA THOMPSON Last updated 05:00 09/04/2011

More than 15,000 film, television, comic book and gaming fans are expected to descend on Wellington over the next two days for the annual Armageddon Expo.

American actress Katee Sackhoff, best known as cigar-smoking pilot Starbuck in cult TV series Battlestar Galactica, is among the special guests at the TSB Arena.

She will sign autographs and take part in panel discussions with fans in her first visit to New Zealand

<snipped>

While she is revered for playing one of the strongest female characters in television history, Sackhoff said New Zealand's Lucy Lawless, who also co-starred in Battlestar Galactica, was an early inspiration.

"I grew up watching Xena. I loved strong women characters and I still do. And Xena was the first female character on television on a weekly basis that was extremely strong. I just loved it.

"I'd always identified with the men in shows and I wanted to be Indiana Jones really bad and then I wanted to be Lara Croft. I've always wanted to be those characters."

Rob Tapert's The Evil Dead To Be An iPad Game

The site BloodyDisgusting.com is reporting that Rob's The Evil Dead will have an iPad game!

Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert's The Evil Dead is getting a new life in the form of an iPhone and iPad game that will bring the gore and campy humor of the cult classic film into the digital age!!

Ghost House Pictures has partnered with Trigger Apps, part of digital marketing firm Trigger, to launch a paid iPhone and iPad game app for the film from the production label's co-founders. It is one of the early attempts at keeping fans in touch with and making additional revenue off classic movies, which some predict will become a growing business. It also can help classics find new fans.

The Evil Dead app, which will be available for $2.99 for the iPhone and $4.99 for the iPad (once Apple approves it in the coming weeks), is an action-heavy 3D shooter game that allows players to take control of Bruce Campbell's character Ash to lead his group of friends to safety while fighting off evil zombies.

"Sam, Bruce and I have always been interested in finding ways to bring our 1980's Evil Dead into the digital age," said Tapert. "And taking this first step with Trigger has been a great experience."

Xena - Top 10 Most Magical Princesses Ever!

Image

With the royal wedding craze sweeping the globe, we've got princesses on the brain. So watch out, Kate Middleton, because you're not the only game in town. After all, there were plenty of Hollywood princesses holding it down on the big (and small) screen long before Will confessed that he hearts Kate.

6. Xena

She's not your everday royalty, but when you're a badass fighter seeking redemption like Lucy Lawless in Xena: Warrior Princess does it really matter?

Xena: Warrior Princess The Sunday Times Reviews The Debt Part 2

The Debt Part 2 is one of my all time favourite episodes. Lucy was INCREDIBLE in this episode. The reviewer from The Sunday Times in Perth agrees!

The picture used is, of course, after Gabrielle slaps Xena and a silent tear tracks down Xena's cheek. That scene was just so incredibly powerful and Lucy's acting was just superb. If you are a new fan and haven't seen The Debt Part 2 yet, go and see it. It's one of the best episodes of the entire show.

The Debt Part 2
Xena (Lucy Lawless) narrowly escapes execution for attempting to kill the ruthless young Emperor Ming T'ien (Daniel Sing) and finally repays the debt she owes her spiritual mentor, Lao Ma (Jacqueline Kim).
