Lawless in the Outback
Before Lucy Lawless thought of becoming an actress, she worked looking for gold in the
Australian Outback.
"We'd go for miles upon miles in the Outback measuring the earth and taking soil
samples," recalls Lawless, who is best known for playing the sexy barbarian on Xena.
"I remember leaping over snakes and swerving my truck to miss kangaroos, who would
literally jump over the hood of the truck.
"I didn't ever find that much gold but I sure changed a lot of tires. I only lasted
10 months, but that physical labor prepared me for the gruelling routine of playing Xena
for six years."
