My Xena Sword reproduction arrived in
the mail yesterday and there are some differences between the authorized reproduction
sword and the prop sword (naturally).
The biggest difference is in the quality of steel, the reproduction sword is a quality
that looks like it will take an edge, it is also much thinner than the prop sword which is
almost chunky in thickness. The repro sword is wider near the tip more like a classic
leaf-bladed sword, the prop sword is not leaf-bladed, but fairly straight-edged. The
difference in the steel makes this sword look really different than the sword you see Xena
wielding on the show -- and this will undoubtably bother some people.
The cross guard and pommel looks to be brass with white mother-of-pearl inlayed spots -- the prop has paua shells (like the chakram). The cross guard is larger on the repro and part of it extends down the blade narrowing into a point -- the prop sword doesn't have this feature as this element is part of the sword blade proper.
The repro sword doesn't have the splashes of green paint around each of the spots.
ANNOYING!!! Several words and phrases etched and stamped into the blade: The oddest one: "STAINLESS STEEL" along the thickest part of the blade next to the cross guard. The logo "PROCUT". The phrase "First Production Run". A X:WP logo. The words "Xena Warrior Princess TM's Universal Television Enterprises, Inc. Licensed by Universal Studios Licensing, Inc."
The repro sword came naked, no scabbard.
Bottom line: it looks like you could take a few villages with it.
The sword costs $245 without a scabbard and you can order it through http://tuscanytrading.com/
