You were orphaned by the war
That raged within my soul.
This heart, bereft of hope,
Could see no way to love you
But to entrust your life to others.
Now these mother's arms, so empty
All these years,
Once more have held you:
All the paradise I need
Or I will ever know.
I try to find my voice,
Stilled for so long,
Except for cries in battle
And chanted dirges for the dead.
My son, I could have sung for you.
