A few years ago, Wishes (Judith K. Parker) read The World's Shortest Stories, edited by Steve Moss (Running Press, Philadelphia, 1998), and challenged fans to write 55-word Xena: Warrior Princess fiction (hosted by The Royal Academy of Bards at academyofbards.org), which inspired the following. -- IQ

 

DOUBLE CROSS

(May 2007)

Romans headed for duty in the crucifixion yard.

"That little pacifist seemed so nice."

"Pffft. Took out half our guys. Word is, Xena wouldn’t’ve been so tough without `er."

"Heh, still hangin’ around together. Proof now of what happens to enemies of …. Their bodies! Gone!"

"Who …. How …. Crap. Caesar’s just gonna die."
