This emotional film reminds me of the Australian Beaconsfield Mine Collapse in 2006, but unlike that disaster, which saw 2 miners rescued alive, the Pike River mine disaster had no survivors (the mine was located 46 km northeast of Greymouth in New Zealand’s South Island’s West Coast region). The movie looks at the aftermath.

The cast features three incredible NZ actresses:

Melanie Lynskey (as Anna Osborne)
Robyn Malcolm (as Sonya Rockhouse)
Lucy Lawless (as Helen Kelly)

Three-time Emmy nominee Melanie Lynskey (Yellow Jackets, The Last of Us) and acclaimed NZ actress Robyn Malcolm (Top of the Lake, After the Party) star as Anna Osborne and Sonya Rockhouse; two ordinary women who lost their loved ones in the  2010 Pike River Mine explosion, and become leading voices in the families’ fight for truth and accountability.   Directed by Rob Sarkies (Out of the Blue, Scarfies) and written by Fiona Samuel (Consent, Bliss, Piece of My Heart).

In Aotearoa NZ cinemas October 30. Coming soon to Australian cinemas
