A Question Answered

*Why is she here?* Xena had asked herself that question many times over the past two years. Tonight, she decided that she would finally ask that of Gabrielle. She looked over to her friend who had finally decided that it was just too dark to try writing anything else and was preparing to settle down for the night.

"Gabrielle?"

The bard had just lay down on her bedroll, and turned to look at the warrior. "Yes Xena?"

"I...I have been wondering. Why did you decide to follow me? I mean I know how pursuasive you can be. Why didn't you just talk Perdicas or one of your other friends into joining you on your quest for adventure?"

Gabrielle propped herself up on her elbow. "Well I had actually considered that, but I wasn't really sure that they would go along with the idea. But when I met you I thought the Fates had answered my prayer for a chance at adventure. Then I heard what you said to your brother, Lyceus when you visited his tomb about how no one could see in your heart that you were trying to change. And about how it was hard to continue alone. I decided that maybe I could help you and be your friend."

Xena smiled at her. "Well I'm really glad that you did. You have been a great deal of help to me and the best friend I've ever had."

Gabrielle returned the smile. "Thanks. Your also the best friend I've ever had and I plan on continuing helping you in any way I can."

"I'm glad." Xena lay down on her own bedroll. "Goodnight Gabrielle."

"Goodnight Xena."
