NEXT LIVE VIRTUAL EVENT: THIS THURSDAY *AND* SATURDAY! (Yep, it's a two parter!! Lucky youuuu!!)
Most people when they talk about fanfiction, only talk about the obvious… their favorite authors, their favorite storylines, pairings, themes...they barely scratch the surface of possibilities for REAL conversations about fanfic.
Good thing is…the Xenite Retreat isn’t leaving ANY stone unturned for our latest event! We are exploring the phenomenon of Xena Fanfiction: why fanfic is so important to the Xenaverse, how it became so wildly popular, the best stuff out there, what the writers of Xena were doing when the fans started picking up their quills… we’re covering it ALL!
I have packaged all this goodness into a two-part live event starting THIS THURSDAY that you can access for free..yes that’s right!
Want to join us for “Fantastic Fic and Where to Find it”?
Go here == > https://www.xeniteretreat.com/vxrregistration/
It costs you nil dollars…nada…zilch…zero dineros…you got nothing to lose!
Enjoy an evening exploring the world of Xena fanfic with some of the fandom’s most loved personalities: Writer and executive producer Steven L. Sears, AUSXIP’s Mary D, and fan fiction expert (some even call her the Queen!) Jay Tuma! They’re all one simple click away from rocking your fanfic world!
But to make that happen, you need to take the first step and sign up to Fantastic Fic and Where to Find it!
P.S: Trust me when I say that missing out on this free and fun event would really suck and you being the smart person that you are, DO NOT want that to happen.
Xena (Lucy Lawless) must rescue Hades' sister Celesta (Kate Hodge), the embodiment of Death, from the clutches of King Sisyphus (Ray Henwood) or all mankind will be doomed to eternal life filled with suffering.
Oh what an absolutely fantastic piece of fanfic this is - it's breathtaking in it's story telling. M. Parnell has woven quite a tale. This is a story about Xena finding her father and finding more than she bargained for, taking command and being the best leader she can be - but there are forces against her, including the psychotic Callisto. This is a must read. I can't praise it enough.
In a strange turn of events, Xena loses her memory and ends up with a family who are determined to make her a wife for their son, whilst Gabrielle is trying to find her. The story is very dark and reveals a strange way of living by the people who live in The Vale. M. Parnell has created another great story with this tale...Â
AUSXIP supported the Xenite Retreat since the first event was held in 2016 where we sponsered the event (AUSXIP and my new company AUSXIP Publishing) and we continue our association leading up to the 2018 event next April. If you can't make it to the real life one in Lake Hughes (seriously, cool - been twice and it's AMAZING!) you can now go to a virtual xenite retreat! Here's what to do:
The official group for the virtual Xenite Retreat! We can't promise archery, high ropes, hikes or smores, but we can deliver fun discussions and round tables, Cards Against Humanity (Xena style!), empowerment workshops, even art classes and meditation workshops!
Experience elements from the Xenite Retreat even if you're unable to make it to California. Virtual Xenite Retreat is nothing at all like being at Canyon Creek in April, but it's as close as we can get!
Our goal is to reignite the Xenite community. Engage and encourage your inner Xenite and let your nutball flag fly!!! This is the place to be if you're looking for an engaging and inclusive group for all things XENA!
The path to redemption is never easy, and the journey of a warrior princess seeking to wash the blood of innocents from her hands is no exception. Xena travels to Athens, to plead for redemption in the temple of Eleos. But some things can never be forgiven and the shadows of past sins are long. Will Xena find redemption or betrayal waiting for her in the temple of the gods? The power, the passion, the danger… her courage would change the world. Xena: Warrior Princess.
This week's featured bard of the week is T. Novan. I've loved TN for the last 20 years. Met TN back in 2001 and I'm in awe of his talent. Look at the list of fiction that has been created over the years. Check out TN's little space on AUSXIP: http://ausxip.com/tnovan/index.html
I've lost count how many Xippy Awards TN has received over the years. Is there a favourite? No I love it all BUT I have to choose Classic and Uber to showcase so....
There are a lot of artists in the Xenaverse that are spectacular. When I think of Xenaverse artist, the first name that springs to mind is someone I have known since 1999. August 1999 is when Lucia sent me some cartoon characters she was working and asked me if I wanted to post them on AUSXIP.
I opened the attached images and fell in love. Little Xena and Gabrielle were staring back at me. Lucia Nobrega had drawn two of the most beloved character as Little Xena and Gabrielle. Did I want to post them on AUSXIP? Easiest decision ever made. My answer was YES!!!!
That is why for the inaugural AUSXIP Featured Artist of the Week goes to Lucia Nobrega and she also drew Little Xena and Gabrielle for the Featured Artist Logo (she didn't know it at the time..it was an idea brewing in my head).
Today I’m announcing a new AUSXIP Xena feature. I’ve already got a Featured Bard of the Week. Now it’s the turn of artists – I’ll be showcasing an artist and their work (either here on AUSXIP or elsewhere) in the Xenaverse!
The ORIGINAL idea of AUSXIP was to showcase my art (that’s where the P in AUSXIP comes in…PAGE. It was only supposed to be ONE PAGE and then a gallery of my art. Well that was the plan. Anyhoo it would be great to showcase artwork because as an artist, I love great art. The Xenaverse has INCREDIBLE artists.
Alrighty the Conqueror fic that came after Armegeddon 2 on Herc / Xena crossover created a whole new genre of Xena Fan Fic. What is Conqueror fic?
Conqueror Fic are Tales of the evil warlord Xena who conqueors the world. What would have happened had not Hercules changed Xena. First seen in the Hercules episode "Armageddon Now Part 2". Gabrielle is a rebel.
I awarded this a XIPPY back on 21 July 2000
My mini review: I am quite excited by the new story by LJ Maas - it's a Conqueror piece. I'm not big on the Ruler of the Known World but with this one LJ has really kept me glued to my screen waiting for the next installment! LJ doesn't usually post in parts but she is doing it with this story. Folks this is unbelievably good. Xena is the Lord, Conqueror of Greece, but she is almost forty-five years old when she meets the slave, Gabrielle. The little slave girl turns the hardened warrior's life upside down. EXCELLENT story telling - LJ never disappoints in her storytelling.
Enjoy LJ Maas' The Conqueror Series
This Xena is not the dark ruler from many Conqueror stories. It is rather the story of that same dark Warrior after she has ruled Greece and the surrounding lands for twenty years or so. She has come to the point in her life where she is trying to change, for many reasons...enter slave, Gabrielle. The Lord Conqueror's new slave, a submissive and frightened young woman, holds the power to change Xena, if only she can muster the spirit.
The featured bard of the week on AUSXIP's The Bard's Corner is LJ Maas. one of my favourite people on the planet and gone from us far too soon. Her work is OUTSTANDING and we remember LJ and her work this week. One of my favourite memories of LJ is from 2001 at Dragoncon.
I was rooming with her and I had just met Steven L. Sears and it was around midnight when I finally floated back to my hotel room. Poor LJ was asleep. Not for long :) I tried to keep quiet but I kept giggling. LJ rolled over, looked at me and sighed. She told me to spill it because she needed to go back to sleep and I would still be buzzing if I didn't. LOL! LJ was also the first to create Eva and Zoe art and also taught me how to write a love scene - the love scene in Hidden Truths has it's genesis in the work LJ taught me. For those that have read that scene...well you know what I mean and if you haven't..well it's a testament to LJ's teaching. She was my friend and a beloved mentor. I miss her. Enjoy her work. It's glorious.
We start off with LJ's The Queen Series - Xena & Gabrielle Classic Series
