I want to thank everyone for their birthday wishes - and that sneaky dynamic duo of Carol and Judi for their surpise yesterday :-) I got so much mail and cards that I'm overwhelmed by it all! I spent yesterday doing the Olympic thing - for those Aussies who haven't gone out yet to the Olympic Live Sites - GO! It's just amazing. I've never seen anything like it in Sydney before and I've lived here practically my whole life. The place is abuzz and everyone is having a good time! I also went and watching the women's soccer semi finals - Norway vs Germany - the Norwegian fans adopted us and chants of NORWAY NORWAY are still ringing in my ears as well as cow bells! The image of one fan who sat near us with a helmet with those horns on, a HUGE Norwegian flag draped around him (ala superman) and his cow bell that rang out will stay with me forever, he was fun. For those interested..Norway won (Germany scored an own goal - felt very sorry for the poor German player who scored it in front of the Norwegian fans screaming their heads off). Norway now plays USA for the gold medal. Okay back to today's update!
A thought occured to me as I was updating the fanfic today...I'm just adding Missy's Tropical High Part 6 and 7 and at the same time I've just updated the Season 6 Information Page for Coming Home by Missy (and Judy and Carol added the screengrabs from the preview)...I wonder has this ever been done before?

It is after 7 pm but the deadly serious filming of the day is yet to begin. The plainclothed Lucy Lawless who emerges from the set for the Xena television series is grim. The actor is about to run through her lines for a television advertisement that urges New Zealanders to formulate a national strategy to stop child abuse.

indefinitely on the production of syndicated action series ``Cleopatra 2525,'' filmed on
the former set of ``Hercules: The Legendary Journeys'' in West Auckland, New Zealand.
According the article "A spokeswoman for Pacific Renaissance said the Lucy Lawless
vehicle ``Xena'' was not under threat and filming on the current series would continue

SCI-Fi is having a Xenathon on Monday, Sept 18th from 7am to 1pm (eastern and pacific time zones). - The Emmy Awards were handed out yesterday (Joe LoDuca won a gong for Fallen Angel but that was presented last week). It seems to me that it's awfully crass to honour someone for their work on a show (like Joe) and then to trash the show he won an award for on the televised awards. Maybe they thought it was funny...I sure didn't. Very weird.

I
want to take a moment to explain something about one of Lucia's drawings. I was over at
the netforum on the weekend and the issue of Little Xena holding a baby and saying that
Child Abuse is wrong was discussed. Some people view Xena as a homicidal maniac who kills
children. Now in order not to have a full blown flamewar, I removed Little Xena and the
baby and asked Lucia to draw Little Lucy and a baby. Now I didn't have a problem with
Little Xena and a baby - Xena - the warlord prevented a child from being killed in The
Gauntlet. Xena, the warlord lost her command of her troops because of that baby. Xena the
reformed warrior has never killed a baby although she wanted to with Hope BUT she didn't.
I don't remember any time when Xena harmed a child. She died trying to save a child in
Destiny, she risked her life to save little Gabriel in the first season, she helped save
Diana's baby. That's my take on it. Lucia graciously redrew that logo and it's now Lucy
and a baby. We didn't do this to offend anyone but to support Lucy Lawless and CARES.

This is a great story and covers the public reaction to her "fronting" the campaign, the fundraising by her fans and her thoughts on child abuse as well as her own childhood. The following message appeared on WHOOSH and I do believe there is a real possibility of this happening. I join WHOOSH in trying to get all the fans involved and lets save Xena from cancellation after 16 episodes of Season 6.

Here's the story folks. I received two independent anonymous tips the morning of Sept. 7th that USA Studios wanted to can XWP after 16 episodes. This is rather sobering news, you know? I called R.J. Stewart's office and was referred to USA Studios. USA Studios then referred me to the main RenPic office. The RenPic office referred me to Dan Pasternack's office. I spoke with Pasternack's office twice on the phone in order to confirm that this was where to send messages and confirmed the guy's title, spelling of his name, and the fax number. Since no one was telling me that the info was secret or incorrect I posted the info to let the fans know (48 hours to show support calls for extraordinary means). My mistake. Pasternack's Office now has decided they do not want to know about it. My post to the netforum has been removed. That's the story! And now a new policy. WHOOSH will no longer be directly involved in anything like this again!

After Lucy's appearance on the front page of the Herald
again today she has appeared on TV tonight ~ live! Lucy appeared on the Holmes Show which
is a 1/2 hour current affairs show that airs straight after the main network news. The
show is 1/2 an hour long and usually features 3 items. Lucy was on second and appeared for
10 minutes. Both Lucy and the Children's Commissioner Roger McLay appeared and were
interviewed about the initiatives they are instigating to fight/prevent child abuse in New
Zealand. Lucy has pledged her time and fame to help the cause and appears to be the front
person for it. She was clearly emotional and is very passionate about this cause and was
occasionally a little lost for words but often looked directly at the camera to appeal to
the public. She said she met with the Starship foundation on Sunday and what was to have
been a one hour meeting became a 6 hour meeting finalising all the details. The programme
they have decided on was outlined on the show and they are appealing to the public to
assist with donations in setting up the "one stop" child care centres. TV New
Zealand have already pledged $1,000,000in air time to help promote the programme and the
cause. Child abuse in New Zealand is a HUGE public issue at the moment and is filling the
news and airwaves ( as well as the court system).

What can you do to help? Plenty!

As many of you have read on the lists, over the past week New Zealand newspapers have reported that Lucy was very much upset with reports of child abuse that has cost the lives of several NZ children. Lucy offered her help to combat the problem, and she has now joined with others to raise funds to create New Zealand's first multi-agency CARES (Child and Adolescent Recovery, Empowerment and Safety) center near Starship Hospital.
In response to the requests I've received from fans to support Lucy's efforts, S&S will be taking donations for the Starship Children's Hospital Foundation's Safe and Sound appeal to help support the creation of the CARES center. In addition, I will be posting a new auction up to the Sword and Staff site within the next few days. The proceeds from that auction will also go to support the CARES center. Anyone wishing to donate to this cause can send a check or money order payable in US $ (no postal money orders, please -- they cannot be cashed in NZ) payable to: STARSHIP CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL and I'll forward the donations down with a cover letter indicating that the donations should be used to support the CARES program.
