Message From Lucy About The Auction & Early Tallys

Hi folks,

I'm beyond stoked with the figures I was tallying last night. Beyond stoked. Here are the prelim figures for Starship & ROC Outreach Fund.

Starship Foundation
$ 11,917.74 NZD (that figure will rise with some late sales and some donations)

ROC OutReach Fund
$3,240.82 USD

Lucy sent me a message about the wonderful support for the auction.

Holy cow! My god, that is a lot of money! You can be sure that that will go right where it is vitally needed. Thank-you Friends, from the bottom of my heart!I have never worked on a show with a fanbase as giving as the XWP gang. I guess it was the nature of the show and its message that formed such a community.

I am a day wiser today. I had a wonderful birthday and I just realised that that was truly a birthday present to me! Gosh, now I feel all redfaced. I know you all work so hard for every buck you make and I never want to cajole money out of my beloved fans for any reason. I appreciate all you have done for me in my life and career and I truly ask for nothing more from you. But you make these things happen anyway.
On behalf of all my collegues at the Starship Foundation, our great love and thanks to you, dear Friends, dear Nutballs, old Pals!

Thanks to Mary, Christa, Roger and team for making it all go.
I am so touched.
Love always and everywhere,
Lucy

2010 AUSXIP Charity Auction Update

Hi folks,

Well the auction has ended and I want to thank everyone, to those who bid and who won, for their support of this auction. It wouldn't be possible to achieve what we have achieved without your support.

I'll have some figures for you as to how much we have raised for Starship, ROC Outreach Fund and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (Crystal Chappell) over the coming days.

Since the auction software is somewhat new(ish), there were some glitches. Nothing major but some glitches. Thank you all for your patience in regards to this; it did make for an interesting end to the auction.

For those that have won, you would have received an email to let you know how to pay for your item. For those who won items in the ROC OutReach Fund and Crystal Chappell items, you will be getting an invoice from our paypal account in the coming day/s. For those who won Starship items, please follow the directions in the FAQ on how to convert the US$ amount to NZ$ and proceed to payment on the Official Starship site.

Starship will be letting me know towards the end of the week or early next week (as it's Good Friday this coming Friday and it's a public holiday in New Zealand) including Monday, as to payments received. Once I've received their list and matched it with ours, we will begin to mail out the items won.

Payments for the ROC OutReach Fund and Crystal's items will be through paypal. Once payment has been received, the items will be shipped immediately.

Once again it's been an exhilarating, rewarding experience to be a part of this auction and knowing it will make a difference.

Oh behalf of myself and my hard working team (Christa and Roger), thank you for participating in this auction!

MaryD

Lucy Wants A Xena Movie

The following Q&A is from the recent uinterview.com interview with Lucy. It mainly deals with Spartacus Blood and Sand but there was a question about a Xena Movie:

ImageQ: Would you ever consider going back and doing a follow-up to Xena? - Erik Meers

A: Well, I would, but apart from me and Rob, there doesn't seem to be anyone else interested in doing that. And Renee, I think Renee [O'Connor] would be into it.

Former `Xena' Star Takes Turn Behind Camera

ImageThe TV series "Xena: Warrior Princess," with its brazen beauties,
captured the attention of viewers in the late 1990s and has maintained
a cult following since its final broadcast in 2001. At the forefront were Xena, portrayed by Lucy Lawless, and her blond-haired, blue-eyed, faithful sidekick Gabrielle, played by Manhattan Beach resident Renee O'Connor.

Born in the small town of Katy, Texas, O'Connor moved to Los Angeles
after high school like so many other Hollywood hopefuls. She booked a
multitude of projects, but it was landing the role of Gabrielle in
1995 that gave her the chance to expand her career.

"My most beloved character that I have played is Gabrielle," O'Connor said.

"I worked in New Zealand for six years on the show and it stills holds
a great place in my heart," she said. "What was important about
working (on `Xena') is that it offered me the opportunity to grow as a
person and actress. ... (It helped me to understand) my place in the
world and also allowed me to observe all of the directors that came in
over the years and learn their skills and tools. That's part of the
reason that I wanted to write and direct in my own project."

O'Connor, a wife and mother of two, has kept true to her ambitions,
and will showcase her second directorial project at the Method Fest
film festival. The festival opens Thursday and continues through March
31, with screenings and events in Calabasas, Agoura Hills and Woodland
Hills.

An Interview with Ted Raimi director of Playing Dead

An Interview with Ted Raimi director of Playing Dead
By Dan
Friday March 5, 2010

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to chat with Ted Raimi who most of us might be more familiar with as a very talented actor. He started out
in his brother Sam’s films and has built quite a career for himself
with a very diverse resume in both film and television. Being the horror
fan that I am, I personally am a huge fan of his work from Invader Zim
to Evil Dead, Ted has been in some of my all time favorite films and
television. But in this conversation we focus more on his great new
webseries Playing Dead which just wrapped its first season.

<snipped>

I know you planning on doing 8 episode season, any plans for season 2
yet?

Yes, Ms. Keilly has jotted some things down already for Season 2, and
I’ve been helping with some story ideas for the season. But whether
she’ll take those ideas I don’t know it’s really her show. We do
know that we are going to kill some more celebrities in season 2. We
are going to up the ante. I’ll probably get killed in season 2,
possibly Bruce Campbell, possibly Lucy Lawless, we’ll see, I’ll
bring all my old pals together and I’ll murder them one by one.

<Snipped>

I heard that you are working on a script with Bruce Campbell, could you
tell us about that?

No, I’m not working on a script with him, but I am going to be in a
Bruce Campbell movie of his. I can only tell you that I’m playing a
very beloved character. Anymore than that I cannot say. It’s for
Dark Horse Entertainment. I can’t say anymore or the goons from Dark
Horse will come and get me. They will fly down from Portland with their
cups of coffee in hand and kill me. That’s next for me in terms of
pictures, but until then I’m going to be just writing this new web
series and looking forward to this stuff in New Media that I get to do.
It’s a new part of my life and I love it.

Xena Convention in Europe Update

Here's an update about the Xena Con in Europe from Xenan Warr:

Ultimart has just revealed, on its website, the different packages available for that unique event in France, event dedicated to three shows including "Xena Warrior Princess" and "Buffy The Vampire Slayer".

A full descriptive of the different packages is now available on the website of Ultimart so you can choose which package you would like to buy when tickets will be put up for sale.

For more informations, go now on their website: http://www.ultimartconvention.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=86%3Aglee-buffy-xena&catid=44&Itemid=70

The prices are very cheap ! Honestly, 169 euros for three days ! It's very affordable ! It's great, because with these affordable prices, a lot of fans will be able to come to the convention.

The next week, we will know the name of the first guest of the Musical Convention ! By the way, according to a rumour launched by a member from the board Xena-Immortal, this first guest will be Reneé O'Connor!

And if that convention is successful, Ultimart could organize other conventions - 100% Xena conventions - for the future.

Go quickly express yourself on their board and talk about the Musical Convention. Go here: http://ultimart.max2forum.com/convention-the-musical-f32/

If you have any question, you can contact Ultimart Creation: contact@ultimartconvention.com
For more informations, it's here: http://xena-immortal.com/

Above all, spread the word to make the buzz. All the Xenites must know the news.

Kathryn Morris - Cold Case Fans Need Our Help

Received the following from Naj from the Look Again Cold Case Board for Kathryn Morris asking for our help:

I am writing to you because there is an effort beginning today and running, initially, the months of March and April to let CBS know that fans of this drama series are interested in a season 8.  We are asking that everyone that is a fan and cares to see another season of Cold Case take just a few minutes to go the the CBS Community Boards and post on Byrdman's thread titled:  "Fans Support Season 8!"  The link is as follows:

http://www.cbs.com/forum/posts/list/103968.page

Also at this link are links for snail mail to CBS Executives and a petition.  We strongly encourage a letter as well.  We are attempting to get the word out through any and all internet sources:  YouTube, Twitter, MySpace, Etc., but the main hub of activity is currently being directed at the CBS Community Board for the series.  This may be the one and only chance for fans to be heard so we hope they will take the time to be heard and counted.

Is there No Purpose Beyond The Blood?

ImageI've often imagined what Angelina Jolie films would be like if they starred Lucy Lawless. Tomb Raider was in a manner envisioned for the Kiwi television icon-it's a film based on a video game character, who was in turn inspired and made possible by the groundbreaking heroine Lawless created the year before in the syndicated television epic Xena: Warrior Princess.

We forget now-after Buffy, Lara Croft and their increasingly pallid descendents—how recently women started kicking ass and how the ass kicking kick-started with Xena. If Lawless had played Lara Croft more girls would have taken up archaeology. As depicted by Jolie, raiding tombs looked like the most boringest job ever.

As Walter Matthau said of Lillian Hellman, Jolie is "as seductive as a large bowl of oatmeal." She turns stealing cars, being a hitwoman, and even belonging to the orgiastic cult of Dionysius into chores to be approached with detached and botoxed disdain, and I've pined often, when Jolie pops up onscreen, for the non-ironic glee with which Lawless embodies eros and toughness.

I'm glad she's back on TV. Lawless's performance in Spartacus: Blood and Sand leaves no doubt that Alexander would have been a hit if Oliver Stone anointed Lawless as Queen Olympias instead of Jolie. Lawless is the brand, as they say, in this reboot of Spartacus, and for good reason. She retains the voluptuous beauty she had as Xena (now accented by a more colorful wardrobe) and more importantly, the bold shamelessness. Xena, which had low production value and likely necessitated the coinage of "cringeworthy," charmed audiences because every time Lawless struck a well-placed, slapstick blow against evil, she broke out a brazen, infectious smile. Though Spartacus has inherited none of the lighthearted fantasy of Xena, Lawless is equally brazen.
