#813 - In Your Eyes
While meeting up with some old friends who have a problem only they can solve, both Xena and Gabrielle learn the truth in the old adage "be careful what you wish for".
Xena Prop House is exclusively designed to unite Xena Warrior Princess and Hercules Legendary Journeys prop, wardrobe, production and set dressing collectors. This is a tad on the weird but funny side. Scifi Wire, to celebrate Bruce Campbell's birthday, created Campbell Soup labels depicting four different roles in his career. Naturally there is one of Autolycus but you can collect all of them. Why? Other than the Campbell's Soup connection, I don't know but it's quirky and fun. The NZ Woman's Weekly has a great article and a gorgeous picture of Danielle with her new son
Te Ahi Ka.
Danielle Cormack’s surprise baby blessing
30 May
Few mothers could manage to look as beautiful, stress-free and totally in love as Danielle Cormack does when she cradles her new baby son Te Ahi Ka Cormack Hema-Taylor. But then the well-known actress admits she’s never been this happy. She has a devoted and loving partner, two happy healthy sons and is about to start work on a top Australian television drama in a lead role.
“Things are looking pretty good,” she says. “It has all happened organically for me and so my life at the moment is not so much a surprise, it just all feels right.” When Danielle found out she was pregnant with Ahi – as she calls him – she says she was in shock for a few days. Her 40th birthday will be in December this year, her partner, handsome Boy actor Pana Hema-Taylor, is just 20 and with her first son Ethan nearly aged 14, she had decided that she wouldn’t have any more children.
“About three years ago, I adamantly made up my mind that I didn’t want any more. But then I found myself in a relationship, I was in love, and that helps you readdress certain choices,” she says. “I was very contemplative for about two weeks. I tried hard not to analyse it too much because I just needed to sit with it for a while, to process it and think about everything – like my age and the age gap between myself and Pana.”
Added a Xena Promotional Photoshoots section to the Promos & Adverts Gallery in AUSXIP Xena Images. I will be adding more images in the coming days. Chris also sent me some of the Season 3 promotional images. The galleries are broken down in three categories:

Ask the Oracle: Is Xena’s Chakram a “Magic” Item?
Posted on 15 June 2010 by Brent Hartinger, Editor
Q: Was Xena’s chakram a “magic item,” or was she just really, really, really good a physics? — Mark, St. Louis, MO
A: Really, really, really good at physics (probably).
The chakram is, in fact, an historical weapon, used primarily by the Sikhs of Punjab (though not until many centuries after Xena existed).
That said, Xena’s particular chakram does have a supernatural origin: Xena doesn’t possess the weapon when she’s with Borias in Chin, but when she turns up in Norway and confronts the god Odin, she has it; later, in the “Chakram” episode, we learn it was given to her by Ares, who stole it from the gods.
But there’s still no evidence that it’s a “magic weapon” per se. It only seems to work when wielded by people of exceptional skill — Xena, of course, and Callisto, Eve, and (finally, in the finale) Gabrielle.
In “Chakram,” Xena mixes her original “dark” chakram with a chakram of “light,” creating a new weapon with two parts that can be split apart (much like Xena’s own two sides), with a design that seems based on the yin/yang philosophy of her mentor Lo Mao.
This new weapon restores Xena’s lost memory, implying it does have some magical powers (or maybe not: maybe just the familiar act of using it restored her memory). Either way, it seems to work as a weapon solely as a result of Xena’s skill. Source (Reported by Barbara Davies)
Hudson mentioned at the Annual Xena convention back in February that she was going to be working on a new film called "Paris Connections". Hudson stars in the movie as Coco DeVille.
Here's some news for those in the UK. The following was posted on The Book of Souls site
Paris Connections, the new Jackie Collins movie for which I built the website will be coming out on DVD exclusively at Tesco supermarkets in the UK on September 6th. Worldwide release will follow soon after I think. I did some more work around that movie that I will tell you about when the time is ripe.

Season 1 Episode 24: Is There A Doctor In The House - Xena Battles To Save Gabrielle's Life
This was one of the best episodes in the entire series. In this standout moment from an episode which was a standout for Season 1, Xena won’t / can’t let Gabrielle die. Lucy Lawless is simply OUTSTANDING in this episode and in this scene. Gabrielle is wounded and dies from her injuries. Xena refuses to give up in fighting for Gabrielle’s life. Even when all hope is gone, she continues to plead, yell, give CPR and in the end pounds on Gabrielle’s chest in order to get her to come back. It works. Gabrielle is revived.
It is one of the most powerful things I have ever seen on television, the moment where Gabrielle sucks in her first breath after an interminable amount of angst, tears, threats and pleas of “don’t die” from Xena – in the performance of Lucy Lawless’s life.
While everyone else around would have given up, only Xena, the one who loves her, hangs in there as she has nothing else to live for. Few of those gathered around watching would have come away with any other opinion that day than Xena the all-conquering Warrior Princess of Amphipolis loves Gabrielle the bard of Poteideia.
The reason so many fans love this episode really comes down to just these few minutes. The payoff is so exceptional, and the performances so moving it puts the show just briefly into a whole other stratosphere.

Coco De Ville (Hudson Leick) Coco is glossy, gorgeous and a gossip mag favourite, delighting in the attention that the Paparazzi lavish upon her. Yet beneath her glamorous exterior Coco is smart, ambitious and determined to achieve her dream of having her own fashion line. Everything seems to be going so well – the public love her designs, Manhattan Magazine are running an article on her and her relationship with Aleksandr Borinski is everything she could hope for. But for Coco not everything is as it seems- who can she really trust?
The movie is based on a Jackie Collins novel alongside the brilliant Charles Dance. (Reported by Barbara Davies)
As many of you know the AUSXIP Charity Auction was held in March and I have the final amounts that were raised. This figure blows me away and every time I look at it, I am AMAZED at the generosity of you, the fans. What's even more incredible is that with the global financial situation as it is, you still dug deep and it's an incredible gift. It's not just the financial support but also the moral support from those who couldn't donate but who supported the auction and promoted it. You guys are just the best!

Xena (Lucy Lawless) must battle the fierce woman warrior Callisto (Hudson Leick), who is bent on revenge for the death of her family.
That scene launched a thousand fanfic stories …the firepit scene where Xena reveals to Gabrielle about Cirra. Wow. Gabrielle asks Xena never to return to the bloodlust if anything happened to her. Wow. Simply wow. Xena Warrior Princess, the show, was blessed with two actors who were/are simply incredible. This scene is just superb in an episode that was superb.

How's that for an introduction to one of Xena's deepest regrets (and she had lots of those) and her soon to be long time adversary who could match her skills. I think the only Xena fanfic story I wrote was a Callisto story (go figure this out... because I haven't been able to...writers hear their characters in their heads and then they write..I could hear Callisto loud and clear. Not quite sure what that said about my state of mind but it was fun.)
Callisto...the child who survived Xena's army and grew to become the deeply damaged warrior. There is something totally fascinating about Hudson Leick in this role. She OWNS it. From the moment you see her on screen she owned that role. Everything about Callisto was fascinating.
Up to this point in the series we didn't see many who could match Xena's warrior skills (Herc doesn't count). Along comes this warrior out of nowhere who not catches Xena chakram but matches Xena's warrior skills. That was mind blowing.
The scene that launched a thousand fanfic stories
The scene that totally blew everyone away was, of course, the firepit chat.

And before this mini review ends, let's not forget Joxer...the lovable goof. My initial reaction to Joxer so many years ago was that he was the Xena equivalent of a redshirt. I didn't mind him. Didn't mind that he was after Gabrielle either. Poor Joxer was never in the hunt anyway, not with Xena around.
Next Week the DUD of Season 1, Death Mask. Maybe seeing it for the second time will change my mind. Miracles have happened before.
Xena (Lucy Lawless) must enter the magical realm of the Dreamscape to rescue Gabrielle (Renee O’Connor) after she is kidnapped and betrothed to the Dreamgod Morpheus.
Xena (Lucy Lawless) journeys homeward determined to make amends for the sins of her past, but her efforts to begin a new life are challenged by the vengeful warlord Draco (Jay Laga’aia).
