Back from Los Angeles and it was wonderful to see all my friends again after a 10 year gap of not attending Xena cons. I missed you all and while I’m not a hugger, that went out the window! I was with my tribe.

Before I hit Burbank, I stayed at El Segundo (and for once I pronounced it correctly) for the House of Bards production of “A Doll’s House” – I have loads to say about this wonderful production but that’s for another post.

I have quite a few images that I haven’t processed yet but I will be adding to the image gallery soon. My iphone and I were not on good terms while I was taking these and we had some shaky cam thing going. I left my Canon (called Lore) at home. For those that asked… Fred Stapler did not come with me on this trip.

Xena Con Thoughts – Not in Order

Seeing my favourite people was the highlight. We are getting older and the Amazon Elders are amazing humans that I adore. It was a joy to be in their company again. Friends I have known for 20+ years; what an impact Xena made in our lives; that little sword and sandals show I vowed never to watch (yes, silly me) has turned into one of those unexpected joy in my life.

Xenites No Longer With Us…

Those who had passed away were remembered. They were there in spirit; in our memories. There was a collective sigh when we talked about our friends who had passed; it was that kind of weekend. Thirty years is a long time to love a show but it’s not about the show per se but more about the friendships borne out of that show. They left us far too soon. We will see them again in the Elysian Fields. Vale to our fallen warriors.

Xena: Their Courage Changed Our World

Thank you to all of you who had awesome things to say about the “Xena: Their Courage Changed Our World” book. It’s pretty cool to see my baby in the wild AND to see the autographs people have collected (that was such a brilliant idea courtesy of Jamester from The Xenaversity of Minnesota – he suggested I leave a few pages blank at the back of the book for autographs). It was lovely to meet all the Xena con virgins (there were A LOT) and made some new friends which was fabulous.  I signed far too many books and listened to what this book meant to people. It was such a pleasure to watch them with the book that it didn’t occur to me to take photos!! Mega fail on my part.

Con Guests

Missing in Action: Rob, Danielle, Claire, RJ Stewart (RJ was not invited by Creation but Steve invited him to sign his book at the vendors area. Class act, Steven).

Renee

She was in a cheeky mood. She chose to go down to the floor instead of the stage. She was a joy and a whole lot of Renee cheekiness! She was on a mission – from one end of the seating to the other end and further down. It was fun to watch. Renee would occasionally stop in front and people (me included) would snap photos and off she would go across to the other side. She got her execise in for the day!

Lucy

Her “Make America Gay Again” t-shirt was the winner here. Lucy looked a little subdued (compared to what Renee had done earlier) but she was funny and quirky – in other words, normal Lucy mode. She announced her show My Life is Murder was going into a 5th season and she’s also doing the Spartacus show (one episode for her… not sure how that pans out because Lucretia died in spectacular fashion.

Renee, Ted and Lucy

Then there was Ted Raimi – he played the role of a foil to whatever Creation was up to; it was funny to watch him interrupting Lucy and Renee’s dual appearance. There was some annoyance in the crowd but the further it went, the more clued in on what was going on. In the end it was hysterical. Ted’s funny. Lucy was a little less subdued and Renee was just hysterical.

Adrienne

Adrienne cracked me up – she was doing multiple things AND raising money for those affected by the LA fires. She’s just an adorable human being. What a legend! The Unicorn Dinner was OUTSTANDING. There’s a photo of Adrienne dressed as Livia and that little human dynamo Jules standing next to her in identical  costume. It’s mind blowing.

Brittney

Brittney!!! What a riot this woman is. I love her; she’s just such a beautiful soul.

Hudson

Well, Hudson was Hudson and such a joy to watch. She’s just so different and I couldn’t stop laughing over one particular comedy bit. It was just so outrageous and comedy gold. Hudson, you are a keeper. What a beautiful soul.

Steven

Then there was Steven. I first met Steve in 2001 at Dragoncon. We were introduced and I floated back to my room in a haze. 24 years have passed since then and it’s always a joy to see him. I love this guy; he’s just an incredible human being and I met his wife Jessica for the first time. Gut reaction time – got an awesome vibeness (is that a word?) about her. I liked her so much.

This is turning into one of my novels… Part 2 coming soon!
