Sony has struck a three-series deal with Nigeria-based EbonyLife, with the first project set to be an action drama inspired by the Dahomey Warriors, the female fighters who came together to protect their kingdom. EbonyLife and Sony Pictures Television are co-developing the female warriors project, which SPT will distribute internationally.

The Dahomey Amazons or Mino, which means “our mothers” in, were a Fon all-female military regiment of the Kingdom of Dahomey in the present-day Republic of Benin which lasted until the end of the 19th century. They were so named by Western observers and historians due to their similarity to the mythical Amazons of ancient Anatolia and the Black Sea.
