The following review has NO SPOILERS. It’s pretty safe to read if you are keeping spoiler free.

Before she was Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, Diana meets an American pilot (Chris Pine) who tells her about the massive conflict that’s raging in the outside world. Convinced that she can stop the threat, Diana leaves her home for the first time. Fighting alongside men in a war to end all wars, she finally discovers her full powers and true destiny.

This is perhaps the first time in my life I have gone to an opening day screening of a movie. I have NEVER done that EVER. I have waited 40 years for this movie. The TV Show was brilliant but it’s the Wonder Woman comics version I adore.

I have so much to say that I can’t say because it would SPOIL things. You must see this movie unspoilt because it is WORTH it. For those that think this is the Wonder Woman of the TV show – it is not. This is the Wonder Woman of the comics in ALL her glory. It had me fist pumping the air, it had me ROARING. If you know me, you know I wouldn’t do that in a crowded cinema. It was so beautifully done.

The Amazons are TRUE Amazons. No wimpy stuff from them. One of them made me think of Ephiny and I did say out loud (I’m sure it was covered up by the music) ‘oh Ephiny!’  Not in looks but in fierceness. If you are a Spartacus TV show fan…there’s something in there that will make you think of Spartacus. Not saying what but it’s one of my favourite scenes from Spartacus in Season 1. You can guess it on your own or see the movie to find out.

For the Xena fans..oh boy oh boy – there was some moments when if I wished hard enough I could easily see Xena doing WW’s moves – especially THERE and THERE and OMG THERE! (sorry won’t spoil)

Gal Gadot. Was I ever wrong about this woman. I WAS WRONG WRONG WRONG OMG WAS I WRONG. Gal is a superb actress. Just superb. I couldn’t see anyone else playing that role. Diana, Princess of Themyscira, the original Warrior Princess, was EVERYTHING I wanted her to be and more. Diana was strong when she needed to be, fierce, loyal, loving but also naive. By the end of the movie she truly understood what humanity was about.

Chris Pine was fantastic in this movie. His Steve Trevor didn’t overpower Diana on the screen (as I had feared and hoped it wouldn’t happen). He was Diana’s Yoda (just so I can mix fandoms a little). He was perfect for the times.

Lucy Davis was the surprise package for me. She plays Trevor’s secretary. She was funny, assertive and downright ingenious. Very clever.

The Big Bad Guy…I DID NOT SEE COMING. I was blinded by the brilliance of Gal’s performance that I forgot to play ‘Let’s second guess the writer’.

Overall it was well worth the wait. I’m going back on the weekend to watch it with my sister and my nieces and then going back to watch it with another group of friends. I’ve never seen the same movie 3 times in a cinema! I think it will lose it’s surprise factor on me BUT there were moments when I wanted the rewind on the remote so I can replay it over and over.

This is SO good, the acting is fantastic, the minor characters are fleshed out and you cared about them, the whole cast was brilliant. The stunt work was just mind boggling – I have nothing but PRAISE for this movie. Gal Gadot is MIND BLOWING and the director Patty Jenkins created a movie worthy of Wonder Woman.

Is there anything I hated? Yes. I hated when it ended. I want a sequel. Please. Thank you.

Rating: If I can give this 1000+ I would but let’s stick to 5/5
