Rizzoli & Isles renewed for Season 7!

ImageVeteran TNT drama Rizzoli & Isles, now airing its sixth season, has been renewed for Season 7 with a 13-episode order to air next summer. Stars Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander tweeted the news this afternoon.

 

Rizzoli & Isles, toplined by Harmon and Alexander, launched as part of TNT’s previous strategy that focused on crime TNT logo 2015procedurals to complement the network’s well performing off-network acquisitions like Law & Order. It was a breakout hit and remains a top performer for the network, especially in total viewers. Rizzoli & Isles ranked as basic cable’s No. 1 summer series last year and currently occupies the top spot this summer. Overall, the sixth season of Rizzoli & Isles is reaching an average of 11.1 million viewers per episode across TNT’s on-demand, digital and mobile platforms.

Under new Turner boss Kevin Reilly, TNT has been moving toward edgier, darker drama fare, with only a few of the network’s old shows staying on. The 13-episode Season 7 order for Rizzoli & Isles is the smallest for the drama since its 10-episode freshman run.

Rizzoli & Isles is produced by Warner Horizon Television, with Bill Haber and showrunner Jan Nash serving as executive producers. Nash replaced creator Janet Tamaro as showrunner in 2013.

Uh Oh! Someone's in "Deadly Peril" on Rizzoli & Isles

ImageRizzoli & Isles' last season might not have ended on a cliff-hanger, but the midseason finale sure will.

Like last year's midseason finale, in which Jane (Angie Harmon) leaped off a bridge to save a suicidal suspect, another character will find his or her life hanging in the balance. "It's an idea we had last year where somebody from the team is in deadly peril and we'll come back and see how we save them," executive producer Jan Nash tells TVGuide.com.

That won't be the only time someone will be in trouble, life-threatening or not. Before the midseason break, look for a two-parter involving "somebody in our world who finds themselves in the center of a big controversy," Nash teases. "Ultimately what this case becomes will be very challenging for the team. There is some framing going on, but there are some other things too."

Rizzoli & Isles kicked off its sixth season with a first-place finish as basic cable's #1 show for the week, continuing its chart-topping success from last summer. That includes 8.6 million viewers in Live + 7 delivery for the premiere and encore, with 2.1 million adults 18-49 and 2.6 million adults 25-54.
